How much, if any, of their income should people donate to charity? Do you?

“When I take a walk in my neighborhood and leave my phone at home, at first I have a sense of discomfort, like I might miss an important call or an emergency situation, and then suddenly it changes to a sense of separateness, being apart from the world, and I can focus on my surroundings, the sights, sounds, smells, and the inner thoughts that they inspire.”

A new perspective. Let’s be honest, to get a view of Los Angeles we’re usually looking down from the Santa Monica Mountains. This week we’re climbing the 300 stairs to the scenic Baldwin Hills Overlook in Culver City and looking back the other direction. Bring a lunch…and a camera of course.

Cinco De Mayo, y’all. Family Style. We’re taking picnics and blankets for a sunny, festive, culture-filled day in Dolores park for the Mission’s annual Cinco De Mayo festival. Proper unplugged fun.

Looks like a bit of rain while we’re unplugged this Saturday. We’re getting old school. Take your favorite novel or publication (paper copies today, people) to the main reading room of the New York Public Library on 42nd street and 5th avenue and just… read. Feels so good.
