Go swimming. It’s hot and swimming may be part of your weekend plan anyway, but make it a priority to get into some water today. Seek out an ocean, a lake, a pond or a stream. Lie on your back and float. Swim under someone’s legs without touching.

“Friday night isn’t for plans or parties. Friday, as my wife repeatedly tells me, shedding her work clothes for something more comfortable at the end of a weary week, is recovery time. It’s for eating a simple dinner at home, hitting the couch afterward, and, if you’re lucky, passing out earlier than you would on a weeknight.” (David Sax)

Make time for a gorgeous evening enjoying the free summer Latin music series at LACMA. Friends of ours have gone and they say it’s amazing — shows start at 5 pm in the park behind the museum (just a stone’s throw away from the big new rock in town, Levitated Mass). A big crowd of dancers always show up to strut their stuff — crazily-expert dancers who you’d never ID as posessors of such expert moves. This week there’s a fantastic vocal duo called Brasil Brazil. Join the party or just sit in the grass and soak it up.

The reviews for “Into the Woods” haven’t been great, but friends who’ve seen it say at least the NYT was overthinking it (again). This free, open-air Central Park revival is a lavish, wildly bittersweet reinterpretation of children’s fairy tales and the stories we tell ourselves. The music is delicious, the performances stellar (including Amy Adams) and the staging in the Dealcorte Theater — the closest Manhattan has to actual woods — is ravishing. We’re planning to line up for tickets at about 1 pm and then spend the pre-show afternoon wandering around the park. Join us.
